Public schools in Tuscaloosa are run by Tuscaloosa City Schools, a district separate from the county’s. Homes outside the city district are served by the Tuscaloosa County School System. School zones do not follow the city limits, so check an address before you buy or rent: the district’s zoning map shows the elementary, middle and high school for any address (type it in, then click the blue box on it). Central Office: 205-759-3700, 1210 Almon Ave.

The district is split into three high school zones, and each has its own middle school and elementary schools, according to its feeder patterns:

  • Central zone: Central, MLK Jr., Oakdale and University Place elementary schools, then Westlawn Middle, then Central High
  • Paul W. Bryant zone: Arcadia, Skyland, Southview and Woodland Forrest elementary schools, then Eastwood Middle, then Paul W. Bryant High
  • Northridge zone: Rock Quarry and Verner elementary schools and the elementary grades at The Alberta School of Performing Arts, then Northridge Middle, then Northridge High

Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools and the middle grades at The Alberta School of Performing Arts take students from every zone by application and are not part of the feeder pattern. The application for 2026-27 closed Jan. 30, 2026, the district’s specialty schools page says.

For the district calendar, enrollment steps and the school board, see our Tuscaloosa schools guide.

In the tables, enrollment is the student count on the Alabama state report card for 2024-25, and the grade and score are from the same card, which scores schools out of 100 on test results, growth, attendance and, for high schools, graduation and college and career readiness. Each school’s page has its federal count and teacher numbers.
